Swatch & Review: Road to Polish Con Chicago 2017 – Week 1
***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***
Hey there ladies and gents, welcome back! Didn’t think you’d hear from me so soon but I am here today with exciting new polishes from POLISH CON!!! Yes, you read that right, no need to adjust your glasses…lol! This is happening!
Polish Con Chicago 2017 is approaching like a runaway train. Fast, hard and hot! And I, along with 5 other talented swatchers and bloggers will be bringing you the blow by blow for the next 11 weeks on the ROAD TO POLISH CON.
This fall, Mariah of GLL and Rachel and Miranda of Ever After are once again, taking over and shutting Chicago all the way down. This will be the 3rd PC event since launching in the fall of 2016 and I am so excited yet bumped at the same time. I was blessed and fortunate enough to attend the spring event in NYC and it was super amazing. So I know this one will be nothing short of awesome too, but sadly, I will not be able to attend because this whole house buying thing has put a hard stop on my finances. 😦
Anywho, the sun doesn’t stop shining when it comes to polish and the show must go on. If you’re in the PC fan group on Facebook (link below), then you’ve already seen the announcements starting of the makers that will be participating. So now it’s time to start sharing the polishes. But the good news is, you don’t have to wait for PC to get your hands on these polishes. No, no, no! These polishes will be able sooner than you think. Keep reading for all the details.

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***
Hey y’all! Thanks for checking back in today because today I have 2 awesome polishes from the July Polish Pickup Group. Before we get started, if you still haven’t had an opportunity to read my initial post explaining the group and how it works, you should probably do that first. Why? Because it gives you all the info to be apart of the action and how to submit, vote and shop. Read it here!
So while the ‘Johnny come latelys’ get caught up on Polish Pickup (PPU) the rest of us will talk business. I know some of us, every now and then, like to enjoy an adult beverage and even if you don’t like or drink alcohol, you can get some of them virgin. Why am I talking about drinking? Well because July’s theme is Mocktails and Cocktails!!! YUMMY!! So whether you like Pina Coladas, Cosmo, White Russian or the traditional, but still very popular, Long Island Iced Tea, then this PPU is just for you. July Monthly Awareness Polish Box: International Group B Strep Awareness
***Discount Samples***
Hey y’all, welcome back! Today I have swatches from the July Monthly Awareness Polish Box. July is International Group B Strep Awareness Month and if you’re like me, you have either never heard of it or maybe you have but still really don’t know or understand what is it.
Let’s take a deeper look into Group B Strep.
What is Group B Strep?
“Group B Streptococcus (GBS), or Streptococcus agalactiae, is a type of bacteria that is naturally found in the digestive and lower reproductive tracts of both men and women. About 1 in 4 pregnant women “carry” or are “colonized” with GBS.”
“Carrying GBS does not mean that you are unclean. Anyone can carry GBS. GBS is not considered to be a sexually transmitted disease or infection as it can occur on its own even in someone with no prior sexual experience. However, bacteria can be passed between sexual partners, including through oral contact.”
“Unfortunately, babies can be infected by GBS before birth and up to about 6 months of age due to their underdeveloped immune systems.”***
(For more information check out the referenced page at the end of the post.)
This month the Monthly Awareness Polish Box (M.A.P.B.) is supporting Group B Strep International by donating 10% of all sales. Preorder starts June 26th and goes thru July 9th and shipping will begin mid month. Please note, at this time international orders will not be accepted (this may change in the future). The cost is $52/box including all 6 polishes, $40 for your choice of 4 or $11/individually (applicable shipping rates apply).

Swatch & Review: Colors by Llarowe July POTM – Rebillion
***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***
You might find this hard to believe but during my teenage years, I was pretty reckless. We’re all friends here, so can I be honest? I used to drink underage, go clubbing and partying, smoke cigarettes, just basically engaging in activities I had no business with. I know you’re probably think, ‘not Krystal’. But yep, that was me, bucking up against the system…. #myparents because…..I really don’t know why, maybe I thought it was cool and I wanted to push the limits? I never got into anything too serious, I kinda chalked it up to being a teenager.
Nevertheless, I grew out of that rebellious phase and matured very quickly when I found out I was pregnant with my son at 19. He is the best thing that happened to me and thank God for him because I’m not sure how my life would be if I didn’t have him.
Anyway, enough of the mushy stuff, lets talk shop…or polish in this case. The moral of my story is, I’m sure most of us would agree that we have been rebellious at some point in time. But I don’t remember rebellion looking so good.
Today I have Rebellion, the July Polish of the Month (PotM) from Colors by Llarowe (CbL). If you’re not familiar with PotM, then let me warn you now, SET MANY, MANY ALARMS!!! PotM is a one time, 24 hour offering pre-order polish that launches on the first of each month. PotM are only be available for purchase on the 1st of each month and then WILL NOT be offered again. And spoiler alert…. I will have August PotM too. I mean not today, but in a few weeks, I’ll have a full S&R!!! I’m so excited. But let’s not jump too far ahead, let’s take a look at Rebellion.
**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Tonic Topper by Tonic (shiny) and Matte Me topcoat by Jior Couture Polishes (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**
Rebellion
A juicy ruby red jelly laced with holo flakes.

![img_0286[1]](https://queenofnails83.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/img_02861.jpg?w=775)
Overall Thoughts
Formula / Application: formula is amazing and while it dries slightly textured, a good quality top coat will bring out the sparkle and shine
Opacity: 3 coats
Price: $11
Availability: July 1st at 12pm mt – July 2nd at 12pm mt
Overall: LeahAnn is amazing and all the polishes I have from this brand are gorgeous. I love the flakies and how squishy this polish is. And with the matte tc…forget about it! Set an alarm, get the polish!
Were or are you rebellious as a child, teenager or young adult? Let me know in the comments?

Swatch & Review: Bad Bitch Polish – July Birthstone Duo
***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***
Hey friends, welcome back! Today I have swatches from the upcoming July Birthstone Duo from Bad Bitch Polish (BBP).
Rubies, the birthstone of July, are considered the king of precious gems for fortunate folks born in July. Symbolic of the passion and energy associated with the color red, the vibrant ruby is said to bring love, success, health and wisdom. It was believed wearing a fine red Ruby bestowed good fortune on its owner. A Ruby is the most valuable gemstone and its value increases based on its color and quality.
Accordingly, the name “ruby” comes from rubeus, the Latin word for red and these fiery gems have been treasured throughout history for their vitality. Due to its deep red color, ruby has long been associated with the life force and vitality of blood. It is believed to amplify energy, heighten awareness, promote courage in wealth, love and battle. After researching to find all this, I quickly realized why my hubby is a forced to be reckoned with 🙂
So let’s take a look at the two rubies Britt created?
**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Tonic Topper by Tonic (shiny) and Matte Me topcoat by Jior Couture (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

A muted candy red linear holo
Overall Thoughts

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***
Howdy y’all! Happy belated Fathers Day to all the kings that visit the Queendom.
You know, this past weekend my king helped me do a thing. I’ve never been much of a ‘hair person’, it’s just not my forte.
Usually this time of year, as the weather gets warmer, I tend to get an urge to cut all my hair off. So this past Friday that’s exactly what we did, we even colored it. I love how it came out. This time, instead of cutting it all off, I left the top long, oh heck, I can’t describe it, go check out my IG, I posted a picture a couple days ago.
Today’s review features returning, new and core polishes from Literary Lacquer.
Anyway, let’s take a look at what will be releasing this Friday.

Tutorial: Spring Watermarble
Hey y’all!! I am LOVING the current changes to my blog posting schedule!!! I am able to get back to blogging about more nail art, designs and techniques. I know I have shown watermarbles before but today I was inspired by the sights and sounds of spring, although it feels some like summer.
Today I am finally getting around to using the Boombastic Collection from pipe dream polish (PDP) that I purchased during the release in Feb. After missing out on the initial releases of A Night in Vegas Collection (ANIV/ANIVC) and finally purchasing them second hand in an auction, I realized that I needed everything April creates. I have had to adult and passed up on quite a few but the recent collections, were a MUST!!!
The Boombastic collection features 4 holos:
Pink – Body A Shake * Green – Sugarcane * Blue – Feel the Rush * Purple – It Wasn’t Me
I put together the following ‘video’ of pictures taken from my watermarble
What I used:
- Commitment Issues by Vapid
- Jior White Crème by Jior Couture
- Scotch Tape
- Room temperature tap water
- Old cup/dish for marbling
- Watermarble Tool from What’s Up Nails
- Q-tip
- Elf Concealor Brush for cleanup
- Acetone
- Tonic Topper by Tonic
My final mani turned out amazingly…if I do say so myself. The colors are bold and vibrant and perfect for the spring.

If you own any PDP then you know that April is known for making some of the best watermarble polishes. If you’re just getting into watermarbling or you’re having a hard time, I would highly suggest using PDP.
That will do it for today. Let me know in the comments if you prefer tutorials in written, outlined form or this picture to video form.

Swatch & Review: Little Black Dress Polish – Prom King and Queen Duo
***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***
Good Day y’all! How many of you remember your senior year of high school? #insertraisedhandhere I remember it like it was yesterday. It was by far the best year of high school because duh, graduation!!! But before graduation, there is PROM!! For me, it is probably one of the most exciting days of my young adult life. I spent the entire day preparing, getting my hair and nails done, going to dinner and topping it off with dancing making memories that would last a lifetime. It would have been a dream come true had I been crowned Prom Queen but no such luck for me but it ok because the evening was still magical.
Today’s review features a duo from Courtne King of Little Black Dress Polish. This duo came about when Courtne’s son’s girlfriend’s mother, say that 5 times fast, requested a custom polish to go with her daughter’s prom gown. To their surprise, the couple was crowned prom king and queen and are now off to college in the fall.
As I was swatching and preparing this blog, my 10 year old looks over and says, “mommy, this color matches the color of my bridesmaids dress I wore to the wedding.” By golly, she was right. The colors of my wedding were blue, silver and white (yes, we went with Dallas Cowboys colors as hubby is a die-hard fan). So I pledge today to wear these polishes on my next anniversary, Feb.14th!!
Let’s jump into the swatches!
**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Tonic Topper by Tonic (shiny) and Matte Me topcoat by Jior Couture (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**
Prom King
A true navy blue cream with a sprinkle of shimmer. Swatch shown in 2 coats but opaque enough in 1.
Prom Queen
A bright, sparkly azure blue jelly with glittlers and holo flecks. Swatch shown in 3 coats.
Prom King and Queen
Swatch shown with 2 coats of Prom Queen over Prom King.
Golden Dew Cuticle Oil
Made with vitamin E oil, argon oil, jojoba, tea tree oil, lanolin and a blend of essential oil.

Overall Thoughts
Formula / Application: POLISH – Prom King is smooth like a baby’s bottom. No streaking and self leveling, no issues to report. I highly recommend a base coat to avoid staining of Prom King which is highly pigmented. Prom Queen, has some settling of glitters which is expected but a good shaking over even allowing the polish to sit upside down will help. OIL – very hydrating and moisturizing. Not overly greasy and absorbs into cuticle and nail bed nicely. Personally, I was not a fan of the smell but hubby and my girls liked it. I added a little vanilla and coconut fragrance oils. I’ve only been using it for about a week and while I haven’t notice any difference in my nails, I do love how long-lasting it is even through hand washing.
Price: $15 for duo and $5 for oil
Availability: polish – TBA and cuticle oil 7/1
Overall: I think Prom King and Queen are complete show stoppers. There are so many things you could do with them, wear them together or apart and they’ll still look amazing. Look for these polish in the near future when I do my 4th of July mani!
Did you go to your high school prom? If so, tell me the color of your dress? If not, what color dress would you have worn? Let me know in the comments

The Queens Critique: It Girl Nail Art – Plate IG118
***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***
Good Morning Sunshine! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. As for me, weeeeeeelllll….my plans at the last minute changed on Friday which effected my entire weekend. I did however get a lot accomplished! Saturday, my girls and I ran some errands including returning my daughters violin as she decided that she didn’t want to play anymore but instead focus only on chorus which warmed my heart as I too sung all throughout 4-12 grade. We also did a weeks worth of grocery shopping and didn’t end up with a cart full of snacks. YAY for me!! And I was finally able to RELAX and binge watch Grey’s Anatomy as if I had never seen it before….lol, it’s only like one of my favorite shows. It was an amazing weekend of nothing. My son’s basketball team went 1-2 in their tournament but I hear they played their hearts out and had fun which is all I ask for.
So here we are back for another amazing week of reviews and today I have a doozy. Today, I have the newest plate from It Girl Nail Art, IG118. This plate highlights multiple images and symbols representing LGBTQ, political activism and marginalized groups.
I do want to point out that I’m still learning reverse stamping, so while the Autism Awareness mani didn’t turn out as perfectly as I wanted it to, that was not fault of the plate, it was complete user error. I was able to get the 4 full nail images done but wanted to do my research regarding the flags to ensure that color placement is done correctly. If you have any suggestions, please leave them in the comments.
**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Tonic Topper by Tonic (shiny) and Matte Me topcoat by Jior Couture (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

Overall Thoughts
Application: plate it etched very well. No issues with pick up using soft, squishy stamper
Size: plate – 12cm x 6cm
Price: $13.50
Availability: current
Overall: I love this plate. I love the images and how easy is it to work with. I love how there are single images to use with full nail images and that you reverse stamp or leadlight with them. I can definitely see myself using this plate a lot more as I have a ton of manis planned in my head once I do my research so be on the look on my IG in the upcoming weeks.
