Month: December 2016
Interview: Britt Pearson of BBP
Here we are 3 days before 2017! It feels like we just stepped into 2016, man, oh man! I am wrapping up this years Indie Maker Interview series with one bad bitch, Britt Peason. Britt Pearson of Bad Bitch Polish is one of my favorite makers because her polishes are all so beautiful and unique….just like her.
Name: Britt Pearson
Location: Oceanside, CA
Birthday: January 13th
Holiday traditions? If so, what are they? If not, what would be one you’d like to start?
We don’t really have many traditions. When possible, we like to stay home and have quiet days to ourselves- they happen so rarely! My toddler is 2, so we’re just starting to decide what traditions we’d like to do as a family. It’s a lot of fun to decide what kind of memories we want to make over the next few years.
If you could have dinner with any 5 past or present people, who would they be?
This is a hard one! Terry Pratchett (a scifi author with a sneaky snarky sense of humor), Carl Sagan, Marie Curie, Claudette Colvin (she was actually the first one to resist bus segregation in Montgomery, not Rosa Parks), and maybe Marilyn Monroe (who wouldn’t kill for her confidence?).
What cartoon character best represents you?
Have you ever seen Invader Zim? I often feel like Gir- running around, doing a zillion things at a time all while being a bit (or a lot) random. I wish I had his energy though!
Favorite/ideal vacation spot and who would you take with you?
Anytime, anywhere that’s at the beach is my ideal. I’d love to go on a vacation with just my spouse- I know that sounds so expected, but with our busy jobs and parenting, we’d love some sleep and relaxation together!
Favorite 90s TV show or artist/song?
The Fresh Prince
Do you have any hidden talents or traits?
Hmmm. I read very quickly- speed reading classes are pretty cool! I can be pretty crafty when I have the time, too.
Best gift received? Best gift given?
Books, by far. I have jewelry I’ve been given that I love, self care items, etc, but there’s something about a stack of unopened books that make me happy as a clam!
Extra Fun Fact
Super cheesy, but my husband carried a note from me in his wallet for years.
When and why did you decide to start a nail polish line and what makes your brand different?
My nails hate nail polish. Hate. Like they chip and have tip wear within 12-24 hours hate. I loved painting my nails, but had about given up because it wasn’t worth it to have it turn into a mess so quickly. I don’t even remember how, but I discovered indie polish about that time. Indies like my nails better than commercial brands. I started down the Google rabbit hole to find out how people could make their own polish, and the rest followed and here I am!
What is one thing you’re willing to share that your customers would be surprised to know about you?
BBP is not my only business. I also run a business creating shaped sidewalk chalk that are used mainly for party favors & stockings. It’s a lot lower key than polish, so it’s a nice change of pace sometimes!
Besides your own, what other brands do you own/wear?
Wear, almost nothing. I spend too much time testing new colors to really have time to wear any, mine or otherwise. I have colors from tons of other brands, though. Most of what I have is from other SoCal brands because we all love to trade goodies at The Indie Shop in May & November- brands like Envy, Bliss, Nvr Enuff, Squishy Face, Ever After, Sea Lore, Lolita Lacquer… The list goes on! If you check the lineup for the last three events, I probably have something from all the brands- plus some others that I’ve gotten at other times. I love indie polish and someday I’ll have a chance to wear it all. 😉
What is one of you favorite collections or polishes you created?
I have a line of extreme holos that are launching in February that I’m super excited about. That’s probably my current favorite- I don’t think I could pick an all-time favorite. (I’m bad at picking all-time favorites, they really depend on my mood!)
What are your top 3 favorite things to do? (Outside of making polish and filling orders…lol)
If you can’t guess reading by now, I’d guess you haven’t been reading this. 😉 Crafting in some form always tones down the anxiety and lifts my mood, and I love binge watching things when I get a chance.
How did you come up with your company name and logo?
I didn’t. No, really. Those are actually all due to my marketing department (aka my husband).
If you weren’t in the indie polish business, what’s another product you would have liked to create?
We’ve toyed seriously with bath bombs & body care but we just don’t feel like we have the time right now. Maybe in the future we’ll try it again? Who knows! We love coming up with new business venture ideas, whether we implement them or not.
Any spoilers that you care to share about future collections, products, etc?
I’m calling 2017 the year of TV and holo. 😉 Fandoms and holo lovers, get ready! I’m sooo ready for it to be January so these gorgeous shades can start coming out!
In 10 words or less, what would be your brand slogan?
Be a badass today. You’ve got this.
What do you love most about being an indie polish maker?
I love getting out in my lab and just experimenting without any agenda. Owning my business gives me an excuse to do that as often as I’m in the mood to do it.

So it was only natural that I bring her to you all in a different way, behind the scenes…up close and personal.
But enough of hearing me blab away, lets jump right into the fun!

I can wiggle my nose up and down like a bunny, move my ears, and raise both eyebrows together or separately.
When and why did you decide to start a nail polish line and what makes your brand different?

Happy Monday Queens and Kings! It was brought my attention that some men read my blog, i.e. my hubby and I should make them feel welcomed too; hence my greeting to the Kings that visit my page. I do hope you all had a great weekend! You’ll notice this weeks posts are a little shorter than usual, not because I didn’t enjoy the polishes or interviews, but for the simple fact that I am still preparing for the holidays. I have family coming over on Saturday to celebrate Christmas with a Christmas Eve dinner and secret santa gift exchange. TMI? I’m sorry, don’t mean to overshare but we’re all friends here right?
So who’s ready for a swatch & review (S&R) from a brand new to me and the blog? You? Good!!! Swatch & Review: Bad B¡tch Polish – Winter’s Eve
***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE: This post contains polishes that were sent to me for free from the company/brand in exchange for an honest review. All opinions stated are my own and based on my experiences. For additional info regarding PR samples, click here ***
Happy Wednesday Queens! I’m back today with another swatch and review from Bad Bitch Polish (BBP). This new collection, Winter’s Eve, is a 5 polish collection inspired by icy cold sunsets. While I am the ultimate fan and love all things fall, I have to admit that I do enjoy winter. And for the record, I said winter not the snow….lol. The cold days and early night skies are peaceful, serene and beautiful. It’s the perfect time of year for hot chocolate, curling up with a blanket and spending time with family.
I also imagine a view like this.
Isn’t that beautiful?! Fresh fallen snow, pink to purple gradient horizon as the sunsets casting shadows over the mountain. Ahhhhhhh! If you close your eyes, you can see it. As you get closer, you see the icicles hanging from the tree branches. Enhale and you and feel the coolness of the winter in you lungs.
But instead, I live in a small city, 45 mins from Baltimore, so this collection is the closest I’ll get to a real ‘Winter’s Eve’. I hope you enjoy!
**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat, High Shine Quick Dry Topcoat by Vapid and Matte Me by Jior Couture (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**
February Twilight
February Twilight is a dark lavender flakie with specks of darker purple and holo glitter

Polar Night
Polar Night is a berry pink flakie with touches of sunset orange and holo glitter

Winter’s Dusk
Winter’s Dusk is a dark gray flakie with different size glitters and small shards

Below Zero
Below Zero is a cool blue flakie with different size and shape glitters

Dripping Icicles
Dripping Icicles is a glitter/holo topper with different size, shape and color glitters

Overall Thoughts
Formula: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 out of 5 – FANTASTIC!!!
Application: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 out of 5 – easy and smooth
Opaqueness: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 out of 5 – 2 coats for full opacity.
Price: $9.50/ bottle or $45/set
Overall: ♥♥♥♥♥ this collection is getting a 5 out of 5 from me because I LOVE FLAKIES!!! they are fun and really give dimension to the polish. I think the topper looks great over light and dark colors and does not ‘gray’ them.
Winter’s Eve is launching Dec. 16th so be sure to mark those calendars.

Swatch & Review: Col’e Cosmetics
***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE: This post contains polishes that were sent to me for free from the company/brand in exchange for an honest review. All opinions stated are my own and based on my experiences. For additional info regarding PR samples, click here ***
Hey y’all, thanks for joining me back here on this fantastic Friday! Today, I have a swatch and review from a ‘new to me’ brand that I came across on IG. Col’e Cosmetics (pronounced CO-LAY) is much more than just polish, they also offer eyeshadows, lipsticks, lip elixirs and lip cremes. Since I’m not much for makeup, I’ll stick to showing you nail polish. Trust me, it’s for the best because I’d look like a clown if I put in make up.
Because this brand is new to me, of course I had to do a little research on their website to find out more about them. The Col’e Cosmetics mission is simple,”Be Bold, Be Different, Be You!” and it’s a “bright and edgy new cosmetic line with bold and beautiful opaque high pigmented colors that looks amazing on all women for any occasion.”
So with that said let’s check out the polish!
**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid. Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**
Miami Nites
Miami Nites is a bright, neon pink creme

Electric Lady
Electric Lady is a vibrant, electric blue

Jolly Rancher
Jolly Rancher is a bold, neon green creme

Call Me Classy
Call Me Classy is a traditional nude

Funkadylic Gold
Funkadylic Gold is a light brown with gold shimmer

Are You Serious
Are You Serious is a cool, violet creme

Fools Rush In
Fools Rush In is a metallic, copper shimmer

Overall Thoughts
Formula: ♥♥♥♥ 4 out of 5 – although these are cremes, they have a formula of a crelly. The shimmers applied well and didn’t leave brushstrokes. I love that no TC was used in the polishes are super shiny.
Application: ♥♥♥ 3 out of 5 – using these polishes w/o a white base can lead to multiple layers making dry time very long and the overall application thick.
Opaqueness: ♥♥♥ 3 out of 5 – I recommend a white base, not for a ‘pop’ of color but to cover VNL.
Price: $ – $6.99/polish
Shipping: ♥♥♥♥ -$6.80 flat shipping rate on ALL items purchased however, no international shipping offered at this time.
Overall: ♥♥♥ this collection is getting a 3 out of 5 from me.
I will be a customer in the future as there are a few more polishes I’d like to try. So, what did you think, were there any that caught your eye?
