Swatch & Review: ITNOP – Christmas Duo Limited Edition

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE: This post contains polishes that were sent to me for free from the company/brand in exchange for an honest review. All opinions stated are my own and based on my experiences. For additional info regarding PR samples, click here ***

Hey y’all happy Monday! So, my middle child is 9 years old and in the 4th grade. As a 4th grader, new opportunities are available at her school which include joining chorus and band/orchestra. Needless to say, she wants to do it all! Anyway, the school chorus has an upcoming concert in December therefore, she is always singing the songs and practicing at home. It goes without saying that a few of the songs are Christmas based and I know this duo will be perfect for me to wear while in attendance. I can’t believe we are only 54 days from Christmas! I’m so not prepared, mentally, physically, emotionally, nothing! But her holiday cheer and song singing along with this duo is helping me get there.

The Christmas Duo Limited Edition by In The Name of Polish is both fun and exciting, but don’t take my word for it, see for yourself….

**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Quick Dry High Gloss Top Coat by Pro-FX. Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

Hella Holly

Hella Holly is described as a one coater pine green with a soft shimmer and scattered holo

Snowglobe

Snowglobe is a described as a clear base glitter with trees, snowflakes and candy canes

In the quest to make Hella Holly a one coater, the formula is slightly thick and was a little difficult to apply, but nothing a few drops of polish thinner didn’t rectify. I also felt that it dried a little textured but nothing a second layer of TC wouldn’t fix. I did bring this up to Kristin before this post and she is back in the lab to reformulate. As for Snowglobe, I did have to fish out the trees, snowflakes and candy canes onto my nail mat because they do settle to the bottom and I applied them with an orange stick. Because of my c-curve, they didn’t lay flat on my nail as you can see in the swatches.

Overall, I think the topper is great and I will be using it again but not for an extended mani because it would drive me crazy if the add-ins kept getting caught on things like clothing, etc. I like Hella Holly a lot once I added the thinner and wish I had some matte tc because I think that would have allowed that shimmer to pop out more.

This duo is currently available for $16 and will come with an orange stick to help grab the heavier tree glitter in Snowglobe. If you would like this Duo sent as a gift in gift packaging please leave a message in the notes section of your order with the name and address of the recipient! They would make a great stocking stuffer for someone on your list or your #swapgirl!

This Duo is Limited Edition and will not be restocked once sold out!

Swatch & Review: Vapid

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE: This post contains polishes that were sent to me for free from the company/brand in exchange for an honest review. All opinions stated are my own and based on my experiences. For additional info regarding PR samples, click here ***

This has been a crazy busy last couple of weeks with posts everyday. I appreciate you coming back day after day to take part in all the fun and exciting S&R and interviews. Sadly, I must return to my regular Posting Schedule of Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting next week. So finish off my 2 week blogathon, I have an exciting S&R from Vapid.

By now I’m sure it’s not secret that I have a secret crush on all things Vapid. After being introduced to them with my purchase of their core crèmes, I have stalked their IG and FB fan group for all the past shades that I didn’t own by knew they had to be mine. On that list was Campfire, Spellcaster (a HHC exclusive) Witching Hour, Demolition Barbie (from the Awesomesauce box), Who Needs Luck and Dark Twisted Fantasies…just a few. Another one was Blackened Amethyst which is back with the S&R I have for you today. Along with a new friend, the Vapid team are bringing back some oldies but goodies.

Ok, so be honest, who has an alarm or reminder set for the Vapid restock this Saturday, Oct. 29th at 2pm est/1pm cst?

Meee – I do!!

**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Topped with Love by Love, Angeline (shiny) and Matte Me by Jior Couture (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

Smoke Screen

Smoke Screen is described as a smoky grey with shifting shimmers. The shift ranges from red to warm orange into a yellow-gold.

Sweaters n’ Denim

Sweaters n’ Denim is a copper/nude when warm and dusty denim blue with heavy copper shimmer when cool. This is a very responsive thermal and has a satin finish typical of thermals.

Blackened Amethyst

Blackened Amethyst is a deep plum linear holo

I Spike My Coffee

I Spike My Coffee is a light brown nude with pink shimmer

Chick Fight (Dirty)

Chick Fight (Dirty)  is the same black linear holo that you’ve come to love in the regular Chick Fight but with the addition of holo flakes giving it the look of disarray thus making it…DIRTY!!!

Catch Me Of You Can (Dirty)

Catch Me Of You Can (Dirty) is a teal linear holo but again, made Dirty by the addition of the holo flakes.

So let’s address a few things you’re probably wondering at this point.

1) Yes, even if you have the ‘regular’ Catch Me if You Can and Chick Fight, you do need the Dirty version. I am literally kicking myself in the butt for not getting the dirty versions of Grape Stomp and Whatz-Her-Face. So please, make sure you get them!

2) Yes, Sweaters n’ Denim is as amazeballs as it looks and it lives up to the hype you see all over SM. Don’t miss it! This is by far my favorite thermal! (Side note, the photo of SnD in its warm state was a previous swatch (see bottle label) I had taken from the bottle I purchased. I found it on my FB page and decided to use it as it perfect shows the transition.) I now have 2 bottles and I selfishly want to keep both of them but may to a RAOK with my purchased bottle.

3) Blackened Amethyst was on my wishlist and I am soooo happy that I finally own it. It’s wonderfully perfect!

4) Smoke Screen, the new friend to join the Vapid lineup is sure to be a crowd pleaser with its beautiful shifting shimmers.

5) Lastly, I Spiked My Coffee was a sneaker. It’s the polish I didn’t know I wanted, scratch that, needed, until I saw it.

So there you have it! Not much to say other than, #buyallthevapids! If you haven’t dipped your toe into the Vapid pool, I implore you to do so NOW!!! I waited and waited and ended up missing out on so many and I’m so thankful Krys is bring them back but just in case she doesn’t, you better get them while you can!

Swatch & Review: The Howling Boutique’s Supermoon Lacquer – The Chosen Collection

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE: This post contains polishes that were sent to me for free from the company/brand in exchange for an honest review. All opinions stated are my own and based on my experiences. For additional info regarding PR samples, click here ***

Hey y’all I’m back with another great swatch and review from a new to me brand that I am absolutely in love with. I hope you are comfortably chillin’ somewhere so you can fully appreciate the awesomeness I’m about to show you. We’ll take it slow so you don’t become overwhelmed with the goodness forth coming.

The Chosen Collection is the third collection and fourth release from The Howling Boutique’s Supermoon Lacquer. It includes seven colors – four shimmers and three holographic microglitters – with duochrome/multichrome finishes that shift in color when viewed at different angles.

One of the main reasons I love this collection is because all of the polishes in this collection were voted on by members of The Howling Boutique’s Wolf Pack group on Facebook….just one reason you’ll want to join this amazing group. Can you believe it?! A total of thirty-six colors were narrowed down to twelve via member voting and from there Mardi picked her fave seven to make up the final collection. Wolf Pack members then commented with color names and Mardi chose three per polish before the Pack then voted to choose the ‘winning’ suggestion. Hence the collection’s theme and name…The Chosen!

**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Topped with Love by Love, Angeline (shiny) and Matte Me by Jior Couture (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

KNIGHT’S STRENGTH

Knight’s Strength is a blue based purple multichrome that shifts in color from bright purple to dark blue to bright green. Opaque in 2-3 coats. Cost $10.00 (regular) / $9.00 (pre-sale)

After the presale the website will be closed while orders are packed, shipped and everything is re-stocked. It’ll then re-open for the ‘official’ launch on Wednesday, Nov. 9th @ 6pm CST where everything will then be available at their regular, full price as stated above for individual colors and full sets of all seven polishes for $70.

***PLEASE NOTE, no new group member join request approval from 11/1-11/3!! TRUST ME YOU’LL WANT TO BE A MEMBER OF THIS GROUP!**

Overall, I’m in love with this brand! I thoroughly enjoyed this collection from concept to inception. I wish more makers would use this method to make the customers feel involved in the process. As a new to me brand, these polishes lived up to the expectations I had for them. Fantastic formula with a great variety of finishes, easy to apply, great colors that are wonderfully opaque in 2 easy coats.

Interview: Ashley Briana of Pretty in Glam

Happy Humpday Wednesday everybody! I am so excited to bring todays Indie Maker Interview because this young lady is truly amazing. As a young mom and business women, Ashley Briana is the epitome of doing it all. I wish at 27 I had as much drive and determination as this rising star but she has definitely reminded me that its not too late.

So without further adieu, I present Ashley Briana of Pretty in Glam!!!!

Name: Ashley Briana
Location: Detroit, Michigan
Birthday: 9/15/1992

Q: Are you an early bird or night owl?
A: The early bird gets the worm! Lol I love waking up early and getting things done before everybody else.

Q: Stranded on a desert island, what 5 things would you must have?
A: If I’m stranded on a desert island five things I must have would be water, phone, nail polish, food, and a margarita to make it fun lol.

Q: What cartoon character best represents you?
A: I can’t really think of a cartoon character that represents me

Q: Night on the town with friends or evening alone at home?
A: Night on the town is definitely my choice because I don’t have them often so if it was up to me I’d love being with friends.

Q: Favorite 90s TV show or artist/song?
A: My favorite 90’s song is TLC no scrubs

Q: If you were an animal, what would it be and why?
A: If I were a animal I’d want to be a lion because they enjoy their lazy moments but their go getters lol and their the kings and queens of the jungle.

Q: Read a book or watch a movie?
A: I love movies I’d rather watch

Q: When and why did you decide to start a nail polish line and what makes your brand different?
A: As a little girl I’ve always loved nail polish. I collected various brands I would spend my last to buy nail polish and my mom hated it so one day she said “why don’t you just start your own line” and it stuck with me ever since. I wanted my brand to be different, I wanted it to stand out and actually mean something. Most people see my bottles and think it’s just a fancy bow but actually it has a meaning at least to me. The bow represents gifts and strength! We are gifts from god were alive to make a change that’s why I started my awareness collections to get people more aware and to give back to people who are going through or went through unfortunate things and events in life.

Q: What is one thing you’re willing to share that your customers would be surprised to know about you?
A: A lot of my customers don’t know that I’m a mother. My son means everything to me. He’s part of the reason my brand is here. Without him there will be no Pretty in Glam

Q: What advice/tips/best practices would you give someone wanting to start their own polish company?
A: My advice to anyone starting a polish company or any company is to NEVER give up especially on something you love and enjoy doing. GO FOR IT! No matter how hard it may seem or how expensive you think it might be. Try to stay as motivated as possible and have patience because it’s not going to be a overnight success story. I’m still learning how to be patient and to stay motivated.

Q: Besides your own, what other brands do you own/wear?
A: Since launching my brand I only wear my brand buttttt I love Essie , OPI, Glam polish, and for your nails only.

Q: Describe yourself in 5 words
A: I’m a girly, a go getter, Virgo, down to earth, and a fashionista

Q: What is one of you favorite collections or polishes you created?
A: My favorite collections from my brand are the different awareness collections ( will be a different awareness collection every month” because the colors represent the different awareness ribbons like October is breast cancer awareness month I have three different pinks for it called, “breakthrough, strength, and pinky promise”

Q: What are your top 3 favorite things to do? (Outside of making polish and filling orders…lol)
A: My top 3 favorite things to do besides working on my brand.. I love going out to eat and trying new restaurants, I love I love shopping (when I have the funds lol ) and I love spending time and traveling with my son.

Q: How did you come up with your company name and logo?
A: Pretty in Glam actually started off as my twitter name lol and I end up falling in love with it. My logo is simple because I want my brand to speak for itself.

Q: If you weren’t in the indie polish business, what’s another product you would have liked to create?
A: If I weren’t making nail polish I probably would be making lip gloss which I’ve started and will be launching my GLAM gloss winter collection soon

Q: Any spoilers that you care to share about future collections, products, etc?
A: Spoiler alert!!!! I will have a “night glow” collection with different types of glow in the dark polishes. The glows will be different colors so far I have green and purple

Q: In 10 words or less, what would be your brand slogan?
A: She who leaves a trail of GLAM is never forgotten.. let’s paint the world Pretty

Q: What do you love most about being an indie polish maker?
A: My favorite part about making the colors is trying new colors and ideas because you never know what you can create. “Romance” was made on accident and happens to be one of my top sellers.

Q: What other brand (just 1) would you like to collaborate with or have already collaborated with?
A: I would love to collaborate with “for your nails only” and even OPI.

Q: Favorite nail art technique?
A: My favorite nail art is cupcakes and bows of course and I LOVE the 3d flowers made with acrylic

Q: What is your greatest accomplishment to date with your brand?
A: My biggest accomplishment with my brand truly is that I started it and not just dreaming about it. I’m finally able to show the world my brand, it took me over 3+ years to actually start and have the funds to start Pretty in Glam it took A LOT of dedication, research, and money that I didn’t even have. Most people don’t know but instead of using my tax money to catch up on bills, taking a trip or simply just blowing it I put it all into starting Pretty in Glam and I don’t regret it at all because I’m living my dreams and I couldn’t be any more happier. Remember the brand because its here to stay.

Wow! Didn’t I tell you? AH-mazing! Here all this time I thought her bottles were just ‘cute’. I never occurred to me that there was an actual meaning behind them. If you haven’t already, be sure to checkout these meaningful bottles in my review on Lyric, here.

November Monthly Awareness Box: Lung Cancer Awareness Month

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE: This post contains polishes that were sent to me for free from the company/brand in exchange for an honest review. All opinions stated are my own and based on my experiences. For additional info regarding PR samples, click here ***

Awareness. Dictionary.com defines awareness as, “the state or condition of being aware; having knowledge; consciousness.” The meaning of Aware is, “1) having knowledge; conscious; cognizant, 2) informed; alert; knowledgeable; sophisticated.” It’s time we educate ourselves of the sickness and disease that so many of us deal with. I’ve said it before and I’ll continue to say it, “you may not be dealing with an issue first hand, but I guarantee someone you know is.” It’s time we make ourselves aware so that we do everything in our power to help and support.

Did you know that November is National Lung Cancer Awareness Month? I didn’t until I was introduced to this Monthly Awareness Box. So I began researching and found, “by far, the most important risk for lung cancer is smoking tobacco. Nearly 87% of all lung cancers in the United States are smoking-related. Quitting smoking helps to reduce that risk.*” I helped reduce my risk at the beginning of 2016!! I quit smoking! It’s be a challenge but by the grace of God, I’ve been able to do it.

Courtney Stemple has created the Monthly Awareness Box (MAB) to help bring not only beautiful polish to the masses but to help bring support and awareness to the diseases that plague our families, communities…our world! Every month the Month Awareness Polish Box will feature 6 makers and sell for $52 + $6.80 shipping. 10% of each box will be donated to a specific charity or cause. This month, the charity is the American Lung Association which has led the fight for healthy lungs and healthy air for more than a century. This inaugural monthly box will feature makers and brands including;

  • Lindsay Johns of Night Owl Lacquer
  • Hillary Wilson of Nail Jewelry Bling
  • Crystal Churchill of POSHlish
  • Carrie Lynn of Darling Diva
  • Virginia Shaw of Pretty Beautiful
  • Cynthia Decker of Alter Egoimg_6590

The November box will go on pre-sale Oct 23rd thru Nov 2nd at noon and start shipping mid month. At this time international orders will not be accepted but that may change in the future.

I have lots to show you and I can’t wait any longer, so let’s get started

**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and topped with Quick Dry, High Gloss Top Coat by Pro-FX (shiny) and Matter Me by Jior Couture (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

Aren’t these colors amazing? And if you already own polishes from these brands, I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how amazing the formula of these polishes are. If you don’t own these brands, this box is a great way to get your feet wet.

Did you know, “Exposure to secondhand smoke also increases the risk of lung cancer. According to the 2006 Surgeon General’s Report on the effects of secondhand smoke, nonsmokers exposed to secondhand smoke at home or at work increase their risk of developing lung cancer by 20 percent to 30 percent. Secondhand smoke also increases the risk of heart disease and other ailments.*”

I challenge you on this day to do 3 things next month to help raise awareness in the fight against Lung Cancer. Whether it’s changing your FB profile picture or posting 3 facts on your SM acct(s) or donating time or money to the charity of your choice, do something. It’s time we be the change we want to see.

Interview: Sandra Lyle of Love Lacquer

Many of you know about my passion and love for the Big Easy. I am not sure if it’s the music, the food, the people, the culture or what, but I LOVE New Orleans. I have never been there but trust me, it’s on my bucket list. My fear is that I will fall more in love with it and never want to leave. I literally have my first visit all planned out. I want to visit and take in Bourbon St. and have a warm, fresh beignet. Then I want to visit the Super Dome, home of the Saints and for dinner, I think I’ll indulge on some Crawfish Etouffee and Red Beans and Rice. I am going to be such a tourist it isn’t even funny! Meanwhile, I’d love to meet with this phenomenal maker, Sandra Lyle of Love Lacquer. Awhile back Sandra sent me Royal which I swatched and reviewed here and I thought, what a great opportunity to have her on the blog again for an interview.

With horns a playin’ and beads a throwin’, let’s give it up for Sandra and Love Lacquer!!!

Swatch & Review: Literary Lacquers – The Raven Duo and The Needle’s Bite

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE: This post contains polishes that were sent to me for free from the company/brand in exchange for an honest review. All opinions stated are my own and based on my experiences. For additional info regarding PR samples, click here ***

TGIT??? Are you surprised to see a post from me today? I know I don’t normally post on Tuesdays but with so many great polishes coming out, I had to make an exception. I hope this post finds you all well on this fine morning because boy, oh boy, do I have great things in store for y’all today. Let’s start off with a quick game of Charades. Ready? Ok…

2 words. Both words start with ‘L’.

Ding, you got it! Literary Lacquers! How did you guess it so quickly? Was it the title of the post that gave it away? I have to be more clever next time. Anyway, I bet you can’t guess what I have from Literary Lacquers. Swatches? Well duh! But I bet you can’t guess what world famous poem 2 of the 3 were inspired by. The Raven? Crap! I thought I was better at Charades and the guessing game than this. Oh well, now that the cat is out of the bag, let’s jump right in.

It’s customary around these part that I introduce ‘new to me’ brands and so here is a little bit about Literary Lacquers I didn’t know.

“Literary Lacquers was founded at 7,000 feet above sea level in the high desert of Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2012 out of a desire to combine my two biggest passions: literature and polish. Each polish is inspired by a literary reference and I attempt to evoke in color and texture the feel of the passage or work to me. I’m fascinated with the way that light passes through polish and bounces off shimmers and glitters and I’ve worked to develop complex and original finishes to my polishes.

All of the polishes are 3-free and each contains two stainless steel shaker balls.

All of my purchased shipping materials are 100% recycled and my greenwrap is 100% compostable as well as being recyclable. It’s even cute!” –Amy Milder

First, The Raven Duo
After the success of Soul Within Me Burning from the inaugural Color Box, Jen Carter of xoxoJen and Amy decided to make a few more polishes inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s poem, The Raven.

And This Mystery Explore

“Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore;–

 Sweet Lenore

‘Tis the wind and nothing more!”

Sweet Lenore – A bronze metallic linear holo with just a touch of grunge.

This duo is currently available for   $10 and $12 respectively.
There is also a slightly discounted trio with these two and Soul Within Me for $32.50.

The Needle’s Bite

The Needle’s Bite – A vampy mysterious metallic gunmetal linear holo with an antique gold highlight shimmer.

The Needle’s Bite was designed with Alex and Eli Bacon-Leslie and inspired by the Newsflesh series by Mira Grant. This LE is available now thru November 16 for $13 with a $5 donation from each bottle going to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

“With Type 1 Diabetes, every day can feel like a succession of needles. Each day is filled with finger pricks, blood tests and insulin injections.”

“Eli Bacon-Leslie chose to name the polish “The Needle’s Bite” because of his experiences living with Type 1 Diabetes and endless days of needles and blood tests, something the characters in the book could empathize with. The characters in the “Newsflesh” series live in a world of constant needle pricks and blood tests, but in their case, the tests are for zombie amplification, not blood glucose.”

Like I said before, this is a new to me brand and as always I must give my honest review and first overall impression of this brand and its polish. I have to start by saying…. WHAT THE HECK TOOK ME SO LONG TO TRY THIS BRAND!!! As I applied each polish, my heart melted more and more with each stroke. Honestly, the formula is like buttah! The colors are amazing and they are perfectly opaque in 2 easy coats. I am here by inducting Literary Lacquers into the Queen of Nails 83 Wall-O-Polish…as soon as I get more shelves hung.

Because I’m nosey, did any of these polishes step up to the plate for you? Will you be purchasing the duo and/or The Needle’s Bite?
